HIST 175
The course description offered in the Penn State University Bulletin:
HIST 175 (GH;IL) The History of Modern East Asia (3) Comparative survey of the internal developments and external relations of China and Japan since their contact with the industrialized West. (Penn State University Bulletin)
This course showed me the complexity and significance of history, and the long reach of history into the present. Especially, I had a great time learning about different time periods, cultures and ideals specific to the era, in addition to finding and making connections between materials learned in history and literature. Supplemental activities like reading various texts, watching films, listening to audio clips in and out of class greatly enhance student's learning experience and comprehension. In this multimedia-incorporated class, students are strongly encouraged to actively participate in discussions and to think like historians by asking questions, analyzing and interpreting different sources.
